The Community Foundation of Brevard (www.cfbrevard.org) has given the FOTC a $10,000 donation from the Florida
City Gas Fund (a AGL Resources company). The
FOTC Advisory Board has given the City of Palm Bay $6995 for a new Pavilion to be located at the planed Turkey Creek canoe
launch area in the South Brevard Linear Trail Connector (Brook Hollow West). The
Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Palm Bay has
just completed the assembly of the Pavilion and is now awaiting mulch for the floor and a picnic table which they will be
providing. The FOTC Advisory Board has designed, bought, and installed direction
signs in Turkey Creek to assist boaters in going upstream to the Turkey Creek Sanctuary.
A sign is presently being designed by the FOTC to be posted at the Pavilion.
Once it is designed, it will be bought and installed at the Pavilion site. Some
of the money donated will also be used to co-sponsor the FOTC web site and publish newsletters for the FOTC.
This donation was made to the FOTC at the suggestion of our State Representative Mitch Needelman with an assist
from the MRC (Marine Resource Council).

Outlaw Island Preserved!
Great news! Palm Bay has now completed the purchase
of the island and adjacent lands once owned by the Outlaw Investment Company (known locally as Outlaw Island). This
purchase is part of the Turkey Creek Blueway/Greenway Project that the FOTC has been helping the City of Palm Bay with
over the past year. These undeveloped lands along Turkey Creek will now be preserved, which ensures they will not be
developed, helps to preserve water quality, wildlife, and our scenic shore lines. The PB City Staff have done an excellent
job with this and many other projects around the Turkey Creek area!

New Park Named: AIS Trail Park
Palm Bay Parks and Recreation invites the public to submit
potential names for our new park located at the corner of Elliott Street and Hickory Avenue. This 17-acre site, adjacent to
Turkey Creek features hiking trails, boardwalk access to Turkey Creek and connects to the 10-acre retention area located north
of Palm Bay Elementary School. This passive site is similar to the Turkey Creek Sanctuary in its preservation of flora and
fauna.
Update: The Recreation Advisory Board at their July 5th meeting considered almost
20 proposed names for this site. The name Ais Trail Park was recommended to the City Council. The reason for this selection
was that this name recognizes the earliest inhabitants of the area; and that there are artifacts on the site believed to form
this culture. The Council approved this name at their July 21st meeting.
