C-1 Rediversion Project Update!
We can now report that all the gates in the MS1
Water retention structure have been converted to top flowing overflow gates!
The power line to the pump stations that will
pump the water toward the St. John’s River is presently under construction with completion expected in April of 2011.
The plan is to start diverting as much as 28% - 30% of the water back toward the St. Johns River by the summer of 2011.

Outlaw Island Preserved!
Great news! Palm Bay has now completed the purchase
of the island and adjacent lands once owned by the Outlaw Investment Company (known locally as Outlaw Island). This
purchase is part of the Turkey Creek Blueway/Greenway Project that the FOTC has been helping the City of Palm Bay with
over the past year. These undeveloped lands along Turkey Creek will now be preserved, which ensures they will not be
developed, helps to preserve water quality, wildlife, and our scenic shore lines. The PB City Staff have done an excellent
job with this and many other projects around the Turkey Creek area!

New Park Named: AIS Trail Park
Palm Bay Parks and Recreation invites the public to submit
potential names for our new park located at the corner of Elliott Street and Hickory Avenue. This 17-acre site, adjacent to
Turkey Creek features hiking trails, boardwalk access to Turkey Creek and connects to the 10-acre retention area located north
of Palm Bay Elementary School. This passive site is similar to the Turkey Creek Sanctuary in its preservation of flora and
fauna.
Update: The Recreation Advisory Board at their July 5th meeting considered almost
20 proposed names for this site. The name Ais Trail Park was recommended to the City Council. The reason for this selection
was that this name recognizes the earliest inhabitants of the area; and that there are artifacts on the site believed to form
this culture. The Council approved this name at their July 21st meeting.
