On Sept. 8, 2003, two young manatee were spotted upstream of the MS-1 water retention structure.  It was presumed that the manatee entered the system late in August during gate maintenance when rainfall conditions produced comparable stages upstream and downstream at MS-1.  Since the manatee needed to go back downstream to Turkey Creek were they live, Sea World was contacted to facilitate an extraction which took place on Sept. 11, 2003.

The following pictures were taken by John Mongioi, Chair, FOTC Advisory Board, while he was in the area checking up on the FOTC sediment removal project around MS-1.
